Description
For a simple idea, this figure sure was a lot of work.
On this Flint figure, I spent probably two hours dremmeling so that all the parts would fit. I had to dremmel the "neck hole" of the chest piece so that the 1985-style head would fit. But I also had to sand away a lot of the "neck ball" of Flint's head. I had to dremmel the "arm holes" inside of the chest piece AND dremmel the inside part of the arms so it would all fit together (that is, the part of the arms that you don't see because they are inside the chest). Now, I know you run into this problem when you combine pre-1985 parts with post-1985 parts...but come on!
Not to mention the problems with painting the arms. I had to remove the paint and start over because there was still too much friction between the arm and socket, causing the paint to scrape off. But I leanred an important lesson for all customizers:. dremmel out a bit of the "arm socket, and most likely the paint will not scrape off when you move/pose/rotate the arm.
While I tried to make these Flint and Mutt figures similar to the cartoon, I did not strive for complete cartoon accuracy. Rather, I wanted customs that would "fit" with the rest of my figures--although I did opt for the more "cartoon-accurate" rifles, because I think they're pretty neat (see lower picture). But don't get me started on Flint wearing gloves / not wearing gloves. In practically every shot, he goes from gloves to no gloves. I guess I never noticed until I was trying to make this figure, and really see no reason to give this custom figure gloves since he already has the stupid hat.
Also see the
Mutt (Incognito)
figure, because this is only half the story.
